Senior Associate

Description:

We are looking for a Senior Associate to support engagements across our advisory practice. The role spans three functional areas: financial due diligence for M&A transactions, recurring month-end Accounting and FP&A support, and ERP and systems implementations. This person needs to move comfortably between deal work, forecasting, and systems projects, with a strong accounting background as their foundation.

You will work directly with senior Buxbaum team members, client leadership, and external advisors across privately held, middle-market companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial due diligence on M&A transactions, primarily sell-side, including quality of earnings, working capital, debt and debt-like items, and normalized cash flow analysis.
  • Build and own client-ready deliverables such as quality of earnings reports, data books, working capital analyses, and management and board presentations.
  • Perform month-end Accounting work for clients, including writing journal entries, completing bank reconciliations, and providing financial statements to leadership.
  • Additional FP&A work may also be required, depending on the client’s needs, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management dashboarding.
  • Support ERP and systems implementations. Common platforms include NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Act as a day-to-day point of contact on engagements, running calls and working sessions with client management and outside advisors.
  • Use modern tools, including AI applications, to improve speed and quality, and contribute to business development and the growth of the advisory practice.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field with strong accounting coursework. CPA or CPA eligibility strongly preferred.
  • Accounting is the foundation of this role. We need someone who can do the accounting work first, then layer analytical and technical skills on top. Candidates who rely mainly on data analysis or FP&A without strong, hands-on accounting will not be the right fit.
  • At least three (3) years of experience that pairs in-seat Accounting experience with one or more of the following: transaction advisory or financial due diligence, FP&A, or systems implementation. A mix of public accounting (audit or TAS) and industry experience is ideal.
  • Hands-on month-end close experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, and producing financial statements, whether in industry or supporting clients.
Advanced Excel skills, including 3-statement models, cash flow forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Working knowledge of at least one major ERP or accounting platform such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks, with the ability to pick up new systems quickly.
  • Comfortable using modern technology and AI tools to work more efficiently, with genuine interest in applying them to client work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with experience working alongside senior team members, client management, and outside advisors such as investment bankers and attorneys.
  • Sound business judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage several engagements at once and adapt as priorities shift.

Compensation & Benefits:

The base salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $150,000 per year, depending on factors including education, experience, and location. Buxbaum also offers a discretionary bonus based on individual and firm performance. Additional benefits include PTO, nine paid holidays, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, a 401(k) plan, and access to employee assistance programs.

Featured Benefits:

Medical insurance, Vision insurance, Dental insurance, 401(k)
